Upper Wenlock River
Erosion of riverbank - upper Wenlock River
This project addresses land and resource management issues on Kaanju Ngaachi centred on the Wenlock and Pascoe Rivers in central Cape York Peninsula. Specifically, it aims to facilitate the protection and revegetation of of degraded riverine environments on the Wenlock River.

The success of the project will be measured in terms of the achievement of the following outcomes:
  • Areas under threat have had threatening processes removed.
  • Ongoing monitoring programs established.
  • Further damage to fragile areas have been curtailed.
  • Significant areas of degraded riverine systems have been restored.
  • Habitats for the rare species Acacia fleckeri have been restored and plants are growing.
  • Strategies to ensure long term protection of areas revegetated including ongoing programs to address fire and weeds a have been developed.
  • Increase in opportunities for the active engagement of traditional owners on country and intergenerational transfer of local knowledge on country.
